A splendid day revisiting days gone by, all in the name of tennis.

Petworth Lawn Tennis Club hosted an inaugural ’Revival’ tournament on 15th September. The event, which was organised by Sarah Wilford and John Harley, attracted eighteen players who came suitably attired ready to play on the grass courts with wooden rackets. The action on court was of a remarkably high standard and was watched on by family and friends, who had come to spectate as well as enjoy the cucumber sandwiches and fruit punch. Patrick Benson and George Stanek were the winners, narrowly beating Suzie Wood and Anton Hardcastle in the final grouping. The best dressed male and female awards went to Richard Blackburn and Suzie Wood.

The previous weekend the Annual Tournament Finals had been postponed due to rain. The Mens’ and Ladies’ finals have since been played. Peter Suart defeated Richard Blackburn in a very close encounter which was played over two days, 5-7, 6-4,8-6 while Sarah Wilford beat Sally Blackburn 6-0,6-4.
